Best Royalty-Free Music Subscription for Freelance Videographers, Video Editors & Content Creators.

If you make videos for a living, you already know the drill. The music is a really important piece of the puzzle when it comes to video production. And I've spent a fair while researching royalty-free music platforms as a freelance videographer, mostly because I needed to. Copyright claims are no fun, and neither is a library full of tracks that all sound like a corporate explainer from 2014.

So here are my three picks. These are the ones that genuinely offer the best range and value for videographers, editors, and content creators and I use all three myself, in different ways.

Thematic.

First up: Thematic.

Mockup of Thematic home page of their website.

Thematic is a collaborative licensing platform that sits between independent artists and digital creators. It was co-founded in 2018 by digital creator Michelle Phan alongside Marc Schrobilgen and Audrey Marshall, and the whole thing runs on an exchange model. You get copyright-safe music for your content and artists get organic promotion and a new audience.

If you're a content creator, the free tier gives you a limited selection of songs and sound effects to use across your own YouTube channel and socials. Perfect if you're just getting going. Want the full catalogue and premium sound effects? Premium is $9.99 a month, or $79.00 for the year.

For freelance videographers and editors, though, the Pro tier is where it gets interesting. At $239.99 a year (or $24.99 a month), you can use the music across unlimited YouTube and social channels. For the amount of work that covers, it's tremendous value.

Thematic is definitely worth a look and if you sign up for a paid tier, you can use my code E0VHDYCC to get a month of Premium free.

Epidemic Sound.

My second pick has been around a while, and for good reason.

Epidemic Sound Rebrands to Champion Innovation and Creativity for Brands, Creators, and Artists.

Epidemic Sound is a global music licensing and sound library service built for video creators, filmmakers, agencies, and enterprise brands. Here's the part that matters: unlike platforms that act as marketplaces or promotional exchanges, Epidemic runs an exclusive direct-licensing model. They own the full financial and synchronisation rights to everything in their catalogue, which means genuine end-to-end legal protection against copyright claims. That peace of mind is a big part of why I keep coming back.

Epidemic has NLE plugins for DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Creative Cloud, so you can search, audition, and drop tracks straight onto your timeline. No tab-switching, no faffing about with downloads folders.

Their studio and search tools are worth a mention too:

Content creators pay £15.98 a month or £119.88 a year. Freelancers pay £39.99 a month or £203.88 a year, which covers licensing for digital ads and client work.

SoundMarket.

Last one, and the newcomer of the bunch: SoundMarket.

A screenshot of SoundMarket's homepage of their website.

SoundMarket is a royalty-free licensing platform offering video creators, agencies, and businesses a catalogue of commercially cleared, television- and advertising-grade production music. Its real point of difference? Everything is 100% human-made, produced by Grammy- and Emmy-winning composers and industry veterans. In a world where AI-generated audio libraries are multiplying by the week, that stance stands out.

If you're an individual content creator, you can use the service free for personal and non-commercial content which makes signing up a bit of a no-brainer. For client work, the subscription is $24.99 a month or $179.88 a year, which is also solid value for what you're getting.

So which one should you pick?

Honestly? You might not need to choose just one. I use all three. Some sit on free tiers for personal projects, others on paid plans for client work. Mixing and matching is a genuinely sensible way to approach it, because each platform has its own flavour and strengths.

Hopefully these royalty-free music subscriptions help you craft videos that don’t just look the part, but sound it too. Get the music right and everything else hits harder.

Just to keep things completely transparent, some of the links in this article are affiliate links. If you use them to add a new filter to your kit, I may earn a small commission. The best part? It won’t cost you a single penny extra. In fact, sometimes these links even unlock a cheeky discount just for you. Using them is a brilliantly simple way to support the blog, helping me test more gear and share my findings.
